Amer Hammour
Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer, Amer Hammour is responsible for setting Madison Marquette's investment policy and operating strategy. Previously, he spent 10 years as a partner and active board member representing Capital Guidance Corporation . Also as president of Capital Guidance, he is responsible for real estate acquisitions, private equity placements, fund investments and operating company acquisitions. He joined Capital Guidance in 1983 with experience in the fields of finance, real estate and distribution and established the firm's Washington, D.C., office in 1985.

Mr. Hammour holds a Master of Science degree in management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial and systems engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

 

Gary Mottola
President, Property Investments

Gary Mottola joined Madison Marquette in 2002 and is responsible for all investment activities. As President, Gary oversees all Madison Marquette investments, including sourcing and deal selection, underwriting, structuring, portfolio management, and dispositions.

Prior to joining Madison Marquette, Gary was a partner for over 20 years at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, specializing in real estate.  While there, he represented numerous financial institutions, joint ventures, and real estate companies in equity and debt financings, real estate development, acquisitions, and sales, both in the United States and abroad. During this time, Gary also served as an outside advisor to the formation of Madison Marquette and for all of the company's initial strategic activities.

Gary received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and a JD from the University of California at Berkeley.

Peter Jun
Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer of Madison Marquette, Mr. Jun is responsible for determining the company's strategy and organization, managing the execution of the company-wide initiatives for achieving strategic growth, and overseeing the overall corporate operations and administration.  Mr. Jun was a key advisor to the Madison Marquette Board and the CEO before joining the executive team in 2007.

Prior to joining Madison Marquette, Mr. Jun was a successful strategy and management advisor in New York, where he helped Fortune 500 clients and private companies achieve strategic growth.  His previous management consulting career also includes senior positions at Booz Allen Hamilton and Accenture in their strategy practices.  Mr. Jun was also a senior executive at AXA Equitable, where he helped successfully transform the company to a leading global financial services company.  Mr. Jun brings more than 20 years of consulting and management experience to Madison Marquette.

Mr. Jun holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Yale School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University.  He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

 

Phil Akins
Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer, Phil Akins oversees corporate finance, accounting and Fund administration activities as well as growing the company's existing network of banking and financial relationships.

Prior to joining Madison Marquette in 2006, Mr. Akins was the Controller for Clark Construction Group.  He also previously served as Controller for Equant N.V.(North America) and began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he served for 10 years in the audit and business services practice in Australia and the United States.

Mr. Akins holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne and is a Chartered Accountant (ACA).


David Brainerd
Managing Director, Property Investments

Mr. Brainerd is a Managing Director, responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and closing property acquisitions and overseeing investment management and disposition of owned properties. Mr. Brainerd also manages relationships with existing equity partners and has supervised investments representing over 2.5 million square feet of shopping centers, 1.4 million square feet of office space, and approximately 7,000 acres of land for Madison Marquette and while serving as a Senior Vice President for Capital Guidance. Mr. Brainerd began his career with the Mortgage-Backed Securities team of First Boston Corporation's Real Estate Finance Group.

He was responsible for the underwriting of large Portfolios of commercial and residential mortgage loans for purchase and securitization by the firm. Mr. Brainerd brings 19 years of industry experience, and has been involved in real estate investment transactions with an aggregate value of $1.5 billion. Mr. Brainerd holds a Masters degree in Management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, where he serves as Vice Chair of the Commercial and Retail Development Council (Silver Flight), and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Jay Lask
Managing Director, Property Investments

Mr. Lask is a Managing Director, responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and closing property acquisitions in the Midwest and Northeastern regions of the United States. Prior to joining Madison Marquette, Mr. Lask was a Senior Vice President at First Washington Realty, where he oversaw all aspects of the firm’s national shopping center acquisition program, including deal selection and structuring, investment underwriting, pricing, contract negotiation, due diligence, and closing.

Mr. Lask also spent 16 years with Lend Lease Real Estate Investments in progressively responsible positions, most recently as Chief Retail Acquisition Officer. He brings 21 years of experience in real estate investment and has completed real estate transactions with an aggregate value of $1.5 billion. Mr. Lask holds a Masters of Business Administration from Emory University and a Bachelors degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

 

Eric Hohmann
Managing Director, Property Investments

Mr. Hohmann is a Managing Director, responsible for Madison Marquette's investment activities in Western Region of the United States. Prior to joining Madison Marquette, Mr. Hohmann was Vice President of Development and Acquisitions for The Irvine Company, where he managed development activities for multifamily residential projects in Silicon Valley. He also served as Senior Vice President in the Real Estate Division of JMB Realty Corporation, managing property sales activities for a 54,000-acre, Hawaii-based, mixed-use land development portfolio.

Mr. Hohmann has 19 years of real estate investment experience and has completed real estate transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $1 billion. Mr. Hohmann holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (Finance) from the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Greg Bergan
Executive Vice President, Operations

As Head of Operations, Greg Bergan is responsible for the business operations of all shopping centers and client relations.

He began his shopping center career with Dayton Hudson Properties, later becoming Vice President of Operations for The Center Companies and Senior Vice President for General Growth Management. His 25 years of experience also includes the management of over 18 million square feet of shopping center renovation projects with budgets totaling more than $120 million.

Mr. Bergan is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) serving on its faculty board as well as numerous panels and committees. He has also been a frequent guest curriculum lecturer at several colleges and universities, including the University of Minnesota, University of North Dakota and Georgia Tech.

Jim Blue
Senior Vice President, National Leasing

As Senior Vice President of Leasing, Mr. Blue is responsible for the leasing activity throughout the eastern region and also coordinates our major tenants relationships on a national basis.

Mr. Blue has over 30 years of experience in retail operations and real estate and has an in-depth understanding of the retailer side of the business, having worked for retailers such as Woodward & Lothrup, Sears Roebuck and The Gap.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing the University of North Carolina.  Mr. Blue is a 26-year member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.


Kurt Ivey
Senior Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Communications

Mr. Ivey joined Madison Marquette in 2006 and is responsible for the company's communications with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, clients, partners, investors, retailers and consumers.  He has over 15 years of experience in the shopping center industry and has served in leadership roles at Simon Property Group, Rouse Company and The Mills Corporation.

Kurt earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Weyburn Marketplace

We identified an opportunity to acquire a vacant department store in Westwood Village, a well-situated community adjacent to the UCLA campus.  We earned approval from the community and embarked on a major redevelopment that transformed the space while preserving its historic façade.  The new national credit tenants signed long-term leases and sparked a retail revival for the surrounding area.
