278 Post Street is a seven-story, 73,000-square-foot landmark building located on the prime northeast corner of San Francisco's Union Square. The 18 square block retail district features internationally renowned retailers and some of the world's most successful boutiques, attracting exceptional numbers of area residents and visitors from all over the world. After acquiring the property in 1994, Madison Marquette launched an extensive redevelopment to upgrade the building's retail image and enhance its financial stability. Completed in 1996, the redevelopment increased 278 Post Street's primary retail space from 10,000 to 73,000 square feet by replacing the upper-level office spaces, basement and mezzanine levels with new retail areas. In addition, a complete restoration has preserved the architectural landmark's historic exterior.
